Hello, everybody! Today we talk about scrubs! In autumn, our skin needs more care and protection. Moving from the cold on the street to the warmth of our houses our skin suffers from dehydration. A simple and inexpensive advice is to make a scrub every 1-2 weeks! The scrub is my favorite step in my skincare routine because it allows me to be creative using also ingredients that I can easily find at home. In this post, I want to list my best 4 natural exfoliators for the skin. All 100% natural and easy to find at home.

Natural Scrub – My top 4
1. Sugar as a natural skin exfoliant
Let’s start with a little sweetness. Sugar is a must for DIY scrubs due to its price, affordability, and effectiveness. It has a very gentle action on our skin and it is ideal for face scrubs. Depending on our skin type we can choose between caster sugar or cane sugar; choosing the first for face scrubs or delicate skin and the second for drier body skins. If we add a teaspoon of honey, we will have a Top scrub with only two ingredients. It is not only a good exfoliating but also emollient and nourishing.
2. Coffee as a natural skin exfoliant
I admit it: as Italian, I can’t live without a good coffee. Of course also for my beauty products, coffee is an ingredient that I often add to my recipe because of its benefits. The caffeine contained in it acts as a stimulant improving the circulation of blood. Furthermore, it helps to reduce inflammation and soothe red breakouts and, of course, removes dead skin cells. I wrote about an easy and economical coffee scrub in one of my last blog post. You can have a look here.
3. Salt as a natural skin exfoliant
Salt is on my personal ranking as one of the best exfoliants in scrubs. It removes dead cells promoting the generation of new ones and contains many minerals that help improve skin tone. It is also an antibacterial by removing them from the skin and releasing pores. Furthermore, salt is widely used in Spa, where dry salt air reduces stress and headaches as well as physical ailments (source here). To Prepare a scrubbing salt bath is very simple and fast. I described the steps in my post. Click here to see it.
4. Cacao as a natural skin exfoliant
I close the list with another sweet and adored exfoliant. Cacao. Cacao has very fine grains that are well suited to delicate facial exfoliation, for example. I have often used cacao combined with sugar and honey to create a scrub and have a double effect. One delicate on the cheeks and another more intense on my T-zone. Cacao is one of my favorite ingredients also due to its benefits. It contains a lot of antioxidants and minerals that help the skin stay young and reduce the signs of aging.
These ingredients are really simple and easy to find. Try to create your own scrub and you cannot do without them. ๐

I need to be better about exfoliating. I have a bunch of them but I just forget to use them. I have coffee, sugar, and salt scrubs but I didn’t know cacao was a natural exfoliant too.
I definitely need to exfoliate more this time of year! I actually made sugar exfoliating scrubs for family last month and haven’t tried it myself yet! I’ve been hydrating and moisturizing my skin, but NOT exfoliating enough. I may have to try a salt scrub.
