Soy candle making for beginners | Cinnamon Orange

The creation of scented candles is one of my favorite do-it-yourself projects! With a few ingredients and a little creativity, we can make beautiful candles that will scent our home. In this post, I show you how to make a soy candle of cinnamon and orange for beginners. Before discovering how to make them, take a look at my last guide entirely dedicated to how to make soy candles. A brief introduction to getting started with creating soy candle!

Soy candle

Candle making for beginners

The main ingredient for making scented candles is, as we all know, wax. But there are many waxes and they are not all the same. To prepare scented candles at home, the easiest and fastest method is to use soy wax. Soy wax is affordably priced and, although not water-soluble, can be easily removed with soap and water.

In this post, I created my first candle using soy wax and customizing it with orange peel and cinnamon.

For this recipe, I have not used any scales or mathematical calculations. I decided to make my first candle in the easiest way as a perfect beginner! I think this is a simple and effective way to have fun creating and the result is not bad at all!
If you are interested in knowing how to calculate wax and fragrances, leave me a comment and I will write a post as soon as possible.

Procedure

Before starting, eat an orange and store the peelings. 🙂 I removed the white inner part from the peels and left them to dry for days (you can speed up the process by heating them in the oven for a few minutes).

Let’s start

Since I did not use scale in this recipe, I used a trick to melt the exact amount of wax.
Pour the soy wax first (1) into the container we have chosen and then into a second larger glass container (2). Melt the wax in a bain-marie or microwave (3). I used the microwave (4 min at 800W).
At this point let’s prepare the jar that will contain our candle. Dip the cotton wick in the wax and let it dry on a sheet of baking paper (4). Thread the wick into the metal base and secure it with a work clamp. Using glue, fix the metal base to the bottom of the jar and keep the wick straight with a clothespin (5). Pour into the hot wax the orange peel cut into pieces (only a few! they are only decorations) and sprinkle cinnamon on the candle. Mix everything and pour it into the jar (6). NOTE: don’t put a lot of orange peels! They can burn if they are too much and close to the fired wick!!

After the first step, the jar was filled half of its capacity. To fill the jar completely, just meld the same amount of wax and add cinnamon and orange peels into it. Finally, cut the wick and place a label. Sprinkle some cinnamon on the surface and the candle is ready!
