DIY Fall home decor: pumpkins
My favorite element of decoration is to use pumpkins, gourds, and squash of various shapes and sizes. This year, I had the opportunity to spend the summer months in Italy. I helped also my father-in-law for a short period in the cultivation of his garden and I really enjoyed it!
Watching the pumpkins grow day after day, I thought how to enjoy their beauty as much as possible before eating them. That’s how they became perfect zero waste autumn decorations!
Placing the pumpkins in the house will make our home warmer and cozier.
If you want to celebrate Halloween, you can carve them to create the famous Jack o’ Lantern.
DIY Fall home decor: leaves and chestnuts
Another original idea is to use autumn leaves as decorations. Here in Germany, forests, and parks offer a wide variety of leaves. Their different colors can be used as an original decoration for our home. I love this idea because once the autumn is over the leaves can be composted. This will avoid causing any damage to the environment as plastic decorations can do.
Another evergreen idea is to use leaves as a bookmark once fall is over. Who among us has not used it at least once during adolescence?
On the internet, I found an excellent remedy to preserve their beauty without crumbling with the days. Just soak the leaves in beeswax (or soybean wax)! Doing it, we will create a protective layer on the leaf that will help it to maintain over time.
To decorate your home, there is no need to spend a fortune on decorations. In particular, plastic decorations produce a devastating impact on the environment between production, transport, and disposal. Being aware that all our actions have consequences for the environment is the first step to help it. If you want to decorate your home, be creative, and make your decorations with what nature offers you.
A nice fruit basket as a centerpiece will be more original and creative than a plastic object. Do you want other ideas about natural remedies and at no cost? Take a look at this post.
