Among the beauty products that I enjoy making at home there are certainly deodorants. To make a DIY natural deodorant at home is really simple and requires a few ingredients. One ingredient, that I have recently discovered, and that cannot be missed is the Montmorillonite clay, also called Bentonite.

DIY Bentonite Clay Deodorant
Ingredients
- 2 teaspoons Coconut Oil (find it here)
- 1 teaspoon Shea Butter (optional) (find it here)
- 1 teaspoon Bentonite Clay (find it here)
- 2 teaspoons baking soda (find it here)
- 2 teaspoons rice flour (find it here). Can be replaced by arrowroot powder
- essential oil (facultative)
Benefits
Montmorillonite/Bentonite clay
Bentonite clay has countless benefits. It helps to improve skin tone in case of acne or oily skin, it has antibacterial properties and helps to purify the skin. Used in deodorants, it helps to eliminate all the chemical agents that the use of commercial deodorants has caused for years. Important: When working with Montmorillonite (Bentonite), metal tools should be avoided. This is because the clay will adsorb part of these metals becoming inactive once in contact with the skin.
Baking soda
Baking soda is a natural ingredient that we all have in the kitchen. DIY Deodorants absorb perspiration and neutralize odors. In case of sensitive skin just avoid it. Montmorillonite will make the rest.
Bio Coconut oil/ Shea Butter
Bio Coconut oil is a natural antibacterial and it will moisturize the skin. Shea Butter is easily absorbed into the skin. It’s a moisturizer and reduces itching.
Rice Flour
It absorbs excess of moisture and it thickens the deodorant. Alternatively, it can be used the Arrowroot powder.
Preparation
- Combine coconut oil, and shea butter in a glass bowl, and mix them with a plastic spoon. I would avoid to melt them because then the final deo is too fluid.
- add all of the other ingredients such as rice powder, baking soda, and clay. And mix all together.
- add the essential oil (facultative. Avoid it in the case of sensitive skin)
- Stir it and pour it in the final container.
Considerations
The recipe is really simple and does not require much effort. If you want to switch from commercial to DIY deodorants, this recipe can be great to start or just take a look at my previous recipe for a deodorant with just 3 ingredients.
In case you find complicated to make deodorant at home, there are several products on the market with similar ingredients and natural.
