DIY Exfoliating Body Scrub with Clementines

Today I decided to make a do-it-yourself body scrub to help my legs that are drier than the Sahara desert! Unfortunately, I noticed that my skin is getting drier and drier every day due to the lower temperatures. The use of body creams has not been enough to reduce this annoying skin dryness. For this reason, I thought of making a 100% natural scrub to eliminate dead skin cells and moisturize them at the same time. That’s how I created this original do-it-yourself exfoliating body scrub with clementines!

DIY Exfoliating Body Scrub with Clementines

The main ingredient of this recipe is clementine. Clementines are seasonal fruits rich in nutrients. In particular, they contain potassium and magnesium, antioxidants, and vitamins A and C. Following a philosophy of recycling/reuse as much as possible, I thought that clementine peel could be a useful ingredient for my beauty recipes. So I put the clementine peels aside, dried them, and stored them in a jar for use in beauty ideas.

How to make exfoliating Body Scrub

Let’s see how to treat the peels before storing them. To avoid rancidity due to humidity or bacterial action, it is recommended to dry them thoroughly before use. This process allows us to remove trapped water which could otherwise trigger the formation of mold. If you live in a sunny place, you can simply dry them in the sun. One trick to avoid wasting electricity is to put them in the oven while still hot. For example, after baking a cake or using the oven to make a dish. After turning it off, leave the peels inside for a few minutes to dry without wasting energy. When they are completely dry, they can be stored and used for beauty recipes.

Ingredients used in DIY Exfoliating Body Scrub

To prepare this scrub we will need:

Benefits

Salt

Salt is among the most used exfoliants for body scrubs. It is strongly used due to the benefits it gives to the skin. It acts as a natural exfoliant for our skin at practically no cost. If you want to discover other types of natural exfoliants, then read this post. By rubbing the skin with a scrub, dead skin is gently removed reducing this annoying feeling of dryness. Scrub prevents ingrown hairs, improves blood circulation, and reduces water retention. I went deeper into this topic in my course about DIY lip care products. Have a look here, for more info.

For this recipe, I used two different salts, cooking, and table. I wanted to mix them to have a double exfoliation. More intensive using cooking salt and gentle by table salt.

Honey

Honey is absolutely a MUST in my beauty recipes. I used it in this scrub because I wanted to benefit from its moisturizing and soothing properties. Here another idea with Honey.

Jojoba Oil

Jojoba oil gives amazing benefits for the skin. Besides the exfoliating action of the salts, the soothing propriety of the honey, jojoba oil helps to hydrate the skin, it is an antibacterial, is absorbed quickly, and it is not greasy. With these properties, I thought that jojoba oil could be my salvation against ingrown hairs.

Procedure

To make this recipe, I only:

  1. reduced in tiny pieces the peel of a clementine
  2. in a jar, put 2 tablespoons of cooking salt and 3 tablespoons of table salt,
  3. added 2 teaspoons of honey,
  4. poured 2 tablespoons of jojoba oil,
  5. mixed all the ingredients,
  6. added chopped clementines peels.

In this recipe, I didn’t add any fragrance since the clementines give off already a strong fragrance.

Of course, once prepared it I immediately tested and well.. it works!:)
